"“Well, here at last, dear friends, on the shores of the Sea comes the end of our fellowship in Middle-earth. Go in peace! I will not say: do not weep; for not all tears are an evil"
On the morning of April 30th, Tunngle will shut down forever, thus effectively ending LOTR Conquest as an online multiplayer game. This will be the second death of the game, after EA closed the official online servers on March 16th, 2010.
Let's be honest: Conquest isn't what it used to be. The servers are often empty, and the community has moved on to other games or different times in life. But let us also remember that this game lasted EIGHT YEARS longer than anybody thought, and for a long time had a dedicated and loyal community that created friendships and rivalries, and brought people together from all over the world.
LOTR Conquest was like a best kept secret. Friends in real life would look at you blankly if you mentioned its name. Reviewers didn't get it. Most players quickly discarded it in favour of the latest shooter or sports game. But for us few, us lucky few, it became perhaps the best game we'd ever played. The slow learning curve, the sense of awe when first encountering 'unbeatable' players, the clan war fights, the small community of forums, the duelling, the Olympics, the personalities... All of these things contributed to making Conquest a unique experience, and I hope one that we will remember fondly for the rest of our lives.
So the time is short, but we have one last weekend to play this crazy and blessed game. Spread this everywhere:
DAY OF DEATH. Sunday 29th April, 5:00 GMT + 0 until late. Join the servers and fight alongside old friends and enemies for one last time, as we send Tunngle to the Grey Havens in style.
Who's with me?

Saw this post in my email. This game brings back some Hyunckel memories. Also, Mai, very well written. I was like hearing some Theoden rally speech - "a sword day! a red day! a day of death!.. DEAATH!"

You have my Bow/Axe/Sword etc MaiMai Tunngle was our saviour from the dreaded Hamachi days, Sad that it's going to close but pretty lucky that it didn't happen when we were all still playing the game. I spent a hell of a lot of my time invested in playing this game, Spending hours creating/editing videos, or staying up til 3am talking to certain nubs on Xfire/Ingame & much more I've wanted the game to have it's final death for a long time, It's been limping on well past it's time...FINALLY it will have its Dagor Dagorath. A few words from Gandalf: "End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it, White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise." I've already witnessed a Death Day for this game back when the Ea servers closed I'll see you for the last time on the 29th!

Gentlemen (and ladies), it's been a time. What a game! I've never seen the like of it and probably never will again. And obviously I don't just mean the game itself. As May mentioned, the people, the competition, the clans, the events, the banter, the forums, etc together made for some awesome memories most people (indeed, most gamers) would never dream would come from an online game - and a 'failed' online game at that! "All that is gold does not glitter"!
"The Road goes ever on and on Out from the door where it began. Now far ahead the Road has gone, Let others follow it who can! Let them a journey new begin, But I at last with weary feet Will turn towards the lighted inn, My evening-rest and EASE to meet." - The Lord of the Rings - Conquest January 2009 - May 2018
"White was that ship and long was it a-building, and long it awaited the end of which Círdan had spoken. But when all these things were done, and the Heir of Isildur had taken up the lordship of Men, and the dominion of the West had passed to him, then it was made plain that the power of the Three Rings also was ended, and to the Firstborn the world grew old and grey. In that time the last of the Noldor set sail from the Havens and left Middle-earth for ever. And latest of all the Keepers of the Three Rings rode to the Sea, and Master Elrond took there the ship that Círdan had made ready. In the twilight of autumn it sailed out of Mithlond, until the seas of the Bent World fell away beneath it, and the winds of the round sky troubled it no more, and borne upon the high airs above the mists of the world it passed into the Ancient West, and an end was come for the Eldar of story and of song."
Hope to see you at the shore!

I will try to be there for last time, but i dont promise anything.
Anyways some (probably, but hopefully not) last words from me. Dont expect anything cool, im bad with words.
This game gave me so much memories. It was my first multiplayer game and i was heartbroken after EA closed their servers. Tunngle brought me back this fun. Whole cnqreboot community, clans, events, competition, trashtalk, new friends - i will probably remember this to my final days. Its probably the only game which gave me so much, so it will always have special place in my heart.
I returned to Tunngle as "experienced" player. I thought i would own everyone. Oh boi i was wrong (still owned with archer without spreader infection). Console guys showed me some new stuff, so i also could enjoy learning new stuff, so thanks to you guys. PC>console still ofc (fuck PSX angries). Shoutout to all of you for being quite good. Watching new players grow to be better than me was quiet sad tho (especially in suzda case, when i showed him best spots on Shire for duels and he owned me in his 2nd duel..)
I want to thank everyone who played this game on Tunngle. Some of you hated me, some of you didnt know me (... played to much on fake names) and some of you loved me (most of you ofc). . I want to thank all of you. It was pleasure to play with you.
(still wish i had won Archer Olympics atleast once, probably the only thing which i will regret after playing this games and the only thing i miss in my mastery of noble archery art...)
Hopefully cya all ingame on next Sunday and once again thanks for everything.
Darklion/FiraazZ/suzda/too many nicks to write...

Actually I dunno if I've told this story before, but you did the best shot I ever saw on Cnq! Not sure if you remember but... I was on the outside wall of Helm's Deep TDM, and you were in one of the tunnels underneath the wall. I had hit you with poison, I think, and you had almost no health. I was waiting above ready with multishot, moving around, and suddenly you came out of the tunnel and fire crit me from almost straight below faster than i could even tap multi edit: actually you also did the second best shot I saw. On a Shire duel you were Lurtz and you waited quite close to spawn and just 'guessed' where jumping Legolas would be, and sure enough: you hit me as I was jumping towards the top field, haha!

I think i remember it. First was one of my proudest shots i hit! Predicting shots was one thing i liked to do with arch. This second shot came from vast experience. I just knew most things archers could do in this game Also like this one Proud of my skills. Still could win that gold

I expected it would happen sooner or later, can't be playing Conquest as 80 year old grandpas. Stopped playing for many reasons and it was over for me anyway, because with coming years without solid practice I became even more useless than usual lol. I still think the first big nail in the coffin was closing of xfire, which was fast and easy to use. Great to join your clan friends and others to make big battles. Without it, it wasn't the same to me anymore. Lots of people were gone, I had less time to play and after few years of non-stop playing I was burned out. RIP Tunngle, learned about it completely by accident and it saved me from supposedly failed buy - played both campaigns and few skirmishes and put game on shelf. EA locked servers in early 2010 and I got the game in LATE 2010, together with both Battle for Middle Earth games. I remember I was quite angry at myself, wasting money for few hours of Conquest because f!@k EA. I later learned about Tunngle, but my opinion about EA still stands. And Ubisoft. And Square Enix. Probably a few more companies, but whatever. Mashing buttons to stay cloaked as scout was too much hassle for me so I pretty much never bothered. Still on a good day I could get a few stabs or actually be useful, didn't happen often but still! Rolling on capture spot to be a total max payne in the butt. An actual good scout was payne in the butt to the mix with these stair and aerial backstab, breaking the game. Actually lots of combos was game breaking, I doubt developers knew most of these combos would be possible, maybe only the ones in the quick in-game guide. This turned mage from no brainer class into someone who really had to know what he was doing. Glorious multi mage spams could be still very effective though. Give someone Gandalf and he will lead the charge with his four mage friends as new Istari, because Saruman gone bad, Radagast smokes weed in forest and last two are lost somewhere. I think each of us could write countless pages about their memories, so enough from me. Ok, for quick note TacTic is awesome and I sold my soul to BC for a nice tag and biography on their page. No regrets mr Freeman.
