CNQ REBOOT ARCHER RANKINGS / LEADERBOARDS
AUGUST 2013
Here are the (obviously unofficial) archer rankings/leaderboard for August 2013. Please note: this leaderboard is a somewhat subjective view of the strengths and weaknesses of the archers currently playing the game. While we have gone to lengths to avoid personal biases, such as the influence of friendships, this list is ultimately our own opinion and not to be taken too seriously. We will update this table every week. If you think someone deserves to be on this list, please suggest names below. It's quite possible that due to name changes I am unaware of, someone might end up on the list twice. Please help me correct any errors. Feel free to post results of games or archer 1v1s below (including mandatory screenshot) if you feel they are relevant to the rankings. Rankings are decided on our personal experience of playing against people, their scores in games and in duels and their overall team play. Obviously this is a flawed system, and I understand if people think it's "arrogant" of us to rate players in this way or comment on their weaknesses, but the intent of this table is to have some fun and not to create arguments. Hopefully it might add some more competition to the game.
The table is split into tiers. Archers may be promoted or relegated based on their performance.
Thanks for reading!
1 - Darklion (plays under many aliases) UP ONE
Empire
Darklion is the current best 8v8 archer playing LOTR. He is able to dominate games even when facing the weaker spawn (e.g. evil on Osgiliath tdm). An extreme killing capacity and years of experience allow him to absolutely dominate games. Darklion's ability to hit strafing archers is unreal. He has perfected the ability to hit enemies coming out of their shot to a masterful degree. A slightly disappointing Olympics saw his miss out on a medal after an epic battle with Istari, but nevertheless Darklion remains a dominant force in whole map with comfortable victories over other tier 1 archers. A recent straight shot win over suzda places him in the top three of this mode. In July Darklion took the archer to rarely seen heights, becoming perhaps the most dominant 8v8 archer in game history. Along with Angelus, Darklion was so far ahead of other competitors that it necessitated the creation of an entirely new tier system.
2 - Angelus (plays under many aliases) DOWN ONE
The Black Council
With two successive Olympic gold medals and a complete and continued dominance of the 8v8 mode, few could argue against Angelus as the most successful, most gifted archer of all time. His defensive game frustrates his opponents and he punishes rash moves with lethal accuracy. Angelus has excellent use of terrain and perhaps the best poison arrow in the game. Mighty wins over Mayhem in the 2012 archer final and Istari in the semi, and a dominant 19 - 1 k/d in the recent clan war leave him firmly at the summit of the archer world in LOTR. Sadly in recent times Angelus is less active and rarely plays with the bow. Although able to compete with and on occasion beat the very best, Angelus is perhaps not quite as dominant in the straight shot mode. Although he no longer plays the game "full time", recently Angelus joined the Black Council. This month sees Angelus drop a place but in no way has he lost skills with the bow. It's simply the case that Darklion plays the class much more regularly. When Angelus does take out the bow he's every bit as dominant. Angelus can dominate even highly ranked tier 2 archers!
1 - suzda (plays under many aliases) UP TWO
Empire
After a lengthy break from the game, suzda returned for the BC vs CW clan war, where he continued his dominant 8v8 streak. An amazing killing capacity and longshot accuracy allow him to completely control games. If he has an 8v8 weakness, it may be that suzda rarely plays on the weaker spawn. Although he has a strong history in whole map duels, suzda didn't compete in the 2012 archer event. Recently returned to action as part of the Empire team. Straight shot losses to Darklion and Mayhem will have allowed suzda to gain some experience as he looks to recover some of his former mastery in the event. It will be interesting to see if he recaptures his 2012 form. This month suzda has continued to improve, recapturing a lot of his 2012 ability. Excellent k/d ratios see him move towards the very top of the game.
2 - Laiebi / Ares / Monster (plays under many aliases) UP THREE
The Black Council
One of the strongest 8v8 archers in the game. Laiebi was the most improved archer of 2012, learning shotgun strategies and perfecting a simply lacerating longshot. His killing capacity is off the charts. Although he is a mighty force in the game, what holds Laiebi back is his lack of experience/matches in whole map and straight shot duels. If Laiebi trained in these areas he would be a medal contender in the 2013 Olympics, possessing the ability to reach the very top of the leaderboards. A mighty force in LOTR Conquest.
3 - Merlin / Hades (plays under many aliases)UP SEVEN
The Black Council
It's a testament to his multiclass prowess that Merlin's weakest class has become a lethal force. Capable of awesome k/d ratios, Merlin has improved to the point where he has one of the best 8v8 archers in the game. While he lacks whole map dueling success and dislikes the straight shot mode, he has performed extremely impressively against highly rated archers in small games. Training these duelling modes could allow Merlin to climb even higher as the year progresses. This month Merlin continued to improve, demonstrating an increasing grasp of terrain and map tactics with some impressive performances, particularly on Morgul HTDM, a map which he rarely plays. Climbs a massive seven places!
4 - Mayhem DOWN THREE
The Black Council
A victory over Taco in the semi-finals of the 2012 Olympics allowed Mayhem to achieve a silver medal in a competition filled with veteran archers. Decent 8v8 and clan war performances. Sometimes lower k/d in 8v8 that other top archers. Voted archer of the year in 2012. Recent straight shot victories over the returning suzda and, earlier in the year, Royalty. Good performance in the recent ashes HTDM maps.
5 - Istari (plays under many aliases) DOWN THREE
Empire
A sadly rare visitor to the realms of CNQ, top 10 (!) LoL player Istari returned to the 2012 Olympics to win a bronze medal with a victory over Taco. His Olympic campaign also included an awesome victory over Darklion in one of the most exciting duels witnessed at the tournament. What he lacks in whole map duelling experience he compensates for in sheer accuracy. Istari remains something of an enigma. He'll return out of the blue under an alias and suddenly you'll see a 35 - 1 k/d emerge from nowhere. Undefeated for two years in straight shot and a master of terrain and movement strategies it's hard to emphasize just how far ahead of the curve Istari was in 2011 (with the exception of shotgun knowledge). Since then, it's arguable that others have caught up a little, but Istari still remains an archer at the very top of the Conquest world. Recently he has returned to LOTR to reform the Empire clan. Much more of a straight shot, "pc archer", Istari is still relatively knew to shotgun strategies. Mostly inactive in July, rumour has it that soon Istari will return full time, in which case he will surely climb these boards and head to tier 1.
6 - Demonlord UP TWO
The Black Council / Tactic
A beastly 8v8 archer with a very high killing capacity. The multitalented Demonlord improved his archer to an amazing degree last year. As with Laiebi, Demonlord's 8v8 game is of a tier 1 standard. Although losing to Mayhem in the early stages of the Olympics, Demon learned much from the experience and towards the end of the game began to show his real potential in the discipline. Demonlord is an outside contender for a medal in the 2013 event. Although he remains relatively untested in the straight shot mode, there's no reason to believe he couldn't excel here. In May Demonlord made his clan war archer debut with a monstrous performance against VaLaR on Helm's Deep TDM. In July his 8v8 remained strong and a strong performance in the Ashes Conquest map gave The New Age team their first map victory. At this rate, Demon will climb ever high in the coming months!
7 - Taco / Feanor DOWN THREE
The Black Council
Although narrowly losing the 2012 Olympics semi-final to Mayhem, and being beaten into fourth place by Istari, Taco remains a mighty archer in LOTR Conquest. His aggressive style means that, while he might die a few more times than others, his killing capacity is through the the roof. A non-camping killing machine that roves the map searching to destroy all in his way. Taco excels in all modes of the game. In July an excellent performance with the archer in the Ashes CTR kept Taco at the top of the game, although following the clan war he has been absent and will remain so until late August, meaning he falls a little due to inactivity.
8 - Dingdong UP THREE
~VaLaR~
Dingdong's performance has improved markedly of late. After some 1v1 with Mayhem his abilities have seemed only to blossom. An ever increasing k/d ratio has seen him post some incredibly impressive scores and regularly top his team. Untested and unproved in whole map and straight shot modes of the game, he nevertheless is continuing to surprise many with his increased ability. A real threat in with the bow. After a surprisingly high entry in June, July has seen Ding continue to developer. The most improved archer of 2013.
9 - Panos RE-ENTRY FROM GRAVEYARD
The enigmatic Panos is difficult to rate. Recently leaving The Black Council and returning to his uzumaki name, Panos is an archer of boundless ability. Although he's already ranked here as one of the best archers in the game, he may deserve to be much higher on this list. However, Panos is quite rarely active, remaining unknown to many players. He's also untested in whole map and straight shot duelling modes and, unfortunately, dislikes clan wars, making it difficult accurately to rank his abilities. If you notice a high k/d and excellent longshot in 8v8 and you don't recognise the player, chances are it's Panos!
10 - Turin DOWN FOUR
~VaLaR~
A superb 8v8 archer with extreme killing capacity and accuracy. Turin has developed an archer of outstanding ability, capable of leading his team in game after game. Often supported by the mages of his VaLaR teammates he simply overpowers his opposition. Turin remains untested in the whole map dueling arena and straight shot modes. If he developed these areas he could easily become a tier 1 archer and feature as a medal contender in the 2013 Olympics. Turin is currently absent from the game and therefore falls some due to inactivity.
11 - Royalty DOWN FOUR
~VaLaR~
The master of straightshot duelling, Royalty has held the archer cup longer than anyone. A fearless player and a mighty force in the 8v8 mode. One of the very most accurate archers in the game today. Royalty's biggest weakness, and the one that prevents him from obtaining tier 1 status, is his whole map duel performance. A disappointing first round loss to Morgoth in the 2012 Olympics means that he still has some work to do in this area. If Royalty manages to develop more map awareness to compliment his lethal accuracy he could contend for a medal and a high tier 1 position in 2013. Mostly inactive in July due to connection problems.
1 - Abd
~VaLaR~ NON MOVER
One of the most improved archers of 2013, abd continues to impress with high k/d ratios on the servers, on occasion even topping his team over higher ranked archers. After perfecting a lethal 8v8 mage, abd continues to show his passion for the game with the archer. Slightly weaker in htdm than regular modes, he nevertheless possesses a strong potential with the class. Remains untested in whole map and straight shot duelling. Perhaps a successful run in the 2013 Olympics can move him further up this board. In July Abd continued to impress with some great k/d ratios. A tough time against Darklion on Morgul cnq JUST keeps him out of tier 2 (It was a split decision between our judges as to whether he should be included) but there's every chance he'll climb higher in August.
2 - Amfakes UP THREE
Empire
Massively improved. Amfakes has developed a strong archer, possessing good mid-range accuracy. Although he lacks the killing capacity of higher placed archers, he can still on occassion outscore those placed above him. Much weaker in the whole map arena, Amfakes will need to train to have a chance of a good run in the 2013 Olympics. As a recent recruit to the reformed Empire clan, he should have excellent training mates available. In July Amfakes impressed with a strong outing for The New Age in the LOTR Ashes. In august he has a good chance of progressing to tier 2.
3 - Raj UP TEN
TacTic
Raj is an underrated threat in whole map and straight shot duelling. He is also to be commended for discovering the "Raj spot" in whole map duelling (Shire HTDM), allowing Legolas to hit Lurtz over the incline. Impressive whole map victories include a triumph over Joppi. Raj contends with horrific lag when playing on the CNQ servers, meaning that it's possible he will always be ranked a little below what he really deserves. Lacks the killing capacity of tier 2 archers in the 8v8 mode.In July Raj returned to Conquest with some amazing k/d ratios, topping the score over high rated tier 2 archers. Sadly he's been relatively inactive of late but, when his ping is low, Raj has every chance of moving up into tier 2. This month Raj climbs an astonishing TEN places!
4 - Rampage / Ironheart DOWN ONE
The Black Council / eQ
Rampage has developed into an excellent archer with strong killing capacity and long shot accuracy and a good knowledge of shotgun tactics. Unfortunately his whole map game is much weaker, with Rampage suffering a heavy defeat to Rikimaru in the Olympics. Doubtless with some training and increased map awareness he could become a greater threat. He remains untested in the straight shot mode. In July Rampage was barely active with archer, focusing his efforts on his trusty scout or support mage.
5 - Hidden NON MOVER
CW
A strong defensive and tactical archer with a mighty long shot. Although he is mostly known as a melee player, Hidden is capable of accomplished k/d ratios, particularly in the htdm mode where he is a strong Legolas at Minas Morgul. Less noted for his regular mode archery. Hidden suffered a heavy defeat to Darklion in the first round of the Olympics but has the potential to become a threat in this event should he dedicated some training to the discipline. Hidden was barely active with archer in July.
6 - Killaserpant / Mav NEW ENTRY!
eQ.
A recent recruit to Equilibrium from Valar, Killaserpant's archer is this month's highest new entry. Many people regarded him as a mage only player but throughout July he demonstrated his abilities with the bow, achieving strong k/ds against archers with a much higher rating. Killa really has the potential to grow into an even stronger archer, especially if he gains some experience with whole map and straight shot duelling. An excellent addition to the eQ. clan!
7 - BOYboy13 NEW ENTRY!
An obscure and unknown player that can often be found on the servers, Boy possesses a strong 8v8 game with a capable longshot and high mid range accuracy. His killing capacity is high and he is often among the top scorers on his team. Due to the fact that he's not involved with the community, Boy's whole map and straight shot abilites are unknown. I am unsure whether he has knowledge of the shotgun spreadshot. (If you see him in game, link him to the forum!). An impressive new entry with a lot of potential.
8 - Saburex UP TWO
The Black Council
A strong archer, capable of quality k/d ratios and possessing a very accurate longshot. A newcomer to the game who has quickly made his mark, achieving much success with his warrior. Saburex has every chance to climb much higher on these leaderboards. A successful run in the 2013 Olympics would only help him. A recent addition to the Black Council. In July Saburex had some strong 8v8 performances, allowing him to climb four places. While he continues to excel with the warrior, his archer shouldn't be overlooked!
7 - UK Henry/ EmpirePhantom UP THIRTEEN
Empire
A much stronger archer than he gives himself credit for, in July Henry demonstrated that he is an underrated threat with the bow! He is regularly capable of strong, positive scores and in an important shire htdm match he pulled an even k/d ratio against the mighty Darklion, keeping up with much higher rated archers. Although he is this month's highest climber, rising a staggering THIRTEEN places(!), it's very possible that Henry could be capable of even further progress, moving up into tier 2. Not bad for a warrior and mage expert!
8 - Gwindor DOWN FOUR
It's a little known secret that Gwindor has become an absolutely monstrous HTDM archer, capable of competing with archers ranked far higher than him. His precision, map awareness and shotgun strategies make him a real force to contend with in this mode. His archer in the regular modes is much less established and he remains unproven in 8v8 and whole map modes. In July Gwindor continued to impress but had a rougher time in an important (for the leaderboads) shire htdm map.
9 - Zsolna DOWN FIVE
TLA
A veteran archer from TLA clan possessing strong mid range and long range accuracy, Zsolna notably trained suzda, who went on to top the leaderboards in 2012. Zsolna himself is capable of very impressive k/d ratios, particularly in CTR mode where he can dominate when close to the ring. Lacks success in whole map duelling and the straight shot mode. Has the potential to climb ever higher on the leaderboards. In July Zsolna mostly played late night games alongside his friend Dernhelm but was inactive aside from this.
10 - Lord Of King NEW ENTRY!
Another high new entry, this time Lord of King. A regular and improving archer player capable of some strong kills, Lord of King has developed a sustained killing capacity making him an asset to most sides. As with BOYboy13, King is a non-community player, meaning that he doesn't compete in whole map and straight shot duels (if you see him in game, please link him to the forum).
11 - Dernhelm DOWN SIX
TLA
Upon his return to the game, many people mistook Dernhelm for suzda but it turns out that this EA veteran is a very capable archer in his own right. A strong longshot and mid-range game allow him to be a real threat in the 8v8 mode. He lacks experience in whole map and straight shot duelling. In July Dernhelm mostly played late night games laonside his friend Zsolna
12 - Killashot DOWN SEVEN
Killa has perhaps lost a little skill of late, due to lack of regular play time. He nevertheless remains a strong tier 3 archer, able to achieve some excellent long range hits. At the height of his ability Killa was a top 10 (maybe top 5) archer in game. His killing capacity is a little diminished from what it was, perhaps because he is (unfortunately) rather an outsider to the community, meaning that he forgoes regular training/practise. Lacks experience in whole map and straight shot modes. In July Killa was barely active.
13 - Diadem NEW ENTRY!
eQ.
A new entry from the eQ. clan, Diadem's archer packs quite a punch. While a very accurate longshot allows him to gain kills across the map, Diadem is also capable in face to face situations. One of the more improved players of 2013, he's becoming a real asset to eQ clan not only with the archer but with his developing warrior. He remains untested in whole map and straight shot duelling. Perhaps an Olympics entry in 2013 will see him establish himself in these modes. It's possible Dia may already deserve to be 5 places higher and he has every chance to climb further across August.
14 - Zoroastre / Swarley 999 DOWN FIVE
A very strong archer player, capable of competing with archers ranked much more highly than himself. An improving tactical game and ever increasing terrain awareness allow Zoro to be a real 8v8 threat. Lacks experience in the whole map and straight shot modes of the game. In July Zoro was strong whenever he played but perhaps didn't quite stand out (at least in the games our judges saw) as much as in prior months. A stronger August would see him rapidly rise on the boards
15 - Talib NEW ENTRY!
TacTic
An old veteran of the EA days who joined the legendary KOTT clan in the last month of the game. It's possible that Talib deserves to be ranked much higher than he is here but due to the fact that he's rarely active it's difficult to accurately establish his skills with the bow. He has a very accurate mid range shot and reasonable knowledge of terrain.
16 - Pigonthefield NEW ENTRY!
TacTic
Pig is a strong new entry for the TacTic clan. He clearly possesses some natural ability with the class and can lang longshots to the standard of many higher ranked archers. He lacks a little experience in the 8v8 mode and remains untested in straight shot or whole map. Pig is an archer to watch and it's very possible that over the coming months he could take his game to the next level.
1 - JohnIsGeorge
PSX
An incredibly evasive 8v8 archer that uses jumping patterns very effectively to prevent himself taking damage. John possess an excellent mid-range game. Considering the lag he is afflicted with from his Australian connection, the fact that he can be noticed as an archer is a testament to his abilities. Without lag, John may be a high tier 2 archer. Understandably lacks experience/success in the whole map and straight shot modes. In July John was quite inactive but remains a threat with the bow when needed.
2 - Hurin
eQ.
This eQ. leader is a quickly improving force, capable of landing some strong longshots. May well already deserve to be placed in a higher tier. Hurin is currently. In July Hurin took a short break from the game.
3 - Pedros
TacTic
A greatly improved archer of late, Pedros has a strong longshot accuracy and is developing more map awareness and terrain knowledge. Although he lags behind higher placed archers in these facets, and doesn't yet have a strong killing capacity, Pedros has real potential. In July Pedros returned to the game after experiencing connection difficulties. Will August see him climb up into tier 3?
4 - Inglorious NEW ENTRY!
eQ.
while he's known as a warrior expert, there's no denying that Inglorious has a strong pocker archer. It may even be the case that he deserves a higher ranking. The fact that his archer is a rare sight and he lacks whole map and straight shot experience make it difficult accurately to place him. Nevertheless, he can certainly turn to the bow when his clan require it.
4 - Arendir (formerly Pyrokar/Glorfindel)
TacTic.
In July Arendir had some archer training from the mighty suzda, allowing his to greatly improve his terrain knowledge. He has a great longshot and a decent medium and close range game. With more practise Arendir could easily climb into the higher tiers. An improving player.
6 - Sectorjam
The Black Council
Mostly know for his mighty duelling scout, Sector's archer is nevertheless quite a threat, capable of some strong k/d ratios. Nevertheless, he lacks experience and ability in the whole map and straight shot modes. While his longshot is accurate, his map awareness and terrain knowledge lag behind other archers. Sadly now almost inactive and close the archer graveyard.
7 - Stigman NEW ENTRY!
~VaLaR~
Although his archer is very rarely seen, Stigman has a very high killing capacity that is the equal of many much more highly ranked players. He plays a patient and defensive archer game, similar to his mage strategy, and lures opponents into underestimating him. With a little more regular play it's possible he could quickly climb higher on the boards and become established in tier 3.
8 - Kili NEW ENTRY!
TacTic
Kili has a great long shot and medium range game and also possesses decent terrain knowledge. It's difficult accurately to place him as he is quite inactive. It may be that he already deserves to be placed in tier 3. A player of much potential and a good addition to the TacTic clan
9 - Gabriel / FlyingDutchman NEW ENTRY!
eQ.
A very capable archer with a long and medium range threat. Lacks whole map and straight shot duelling experience and doesn't quite have the killing capacity of higher tiered archers. Another archer with a great deal of potential.
10 - Ankarnamir
~VaLaR~
Known more as a melee player, Ank has a decent archer that he can call on if needed. While he can sometimes lose his temper, when he keeps calm he has an impressive longshot and can surprise many higher ranked archers. With more practise there's no reason he couldn't climb higher.
11 - Rasimme NEW ENTRY!
WoP
The most known player from WoP clan, Rasimme has a decent archer capable of landing some impressive longshots. While he lacks the map awareness and killing capacity of higher tiered players he is nevertheless not to be underestimated. Rasimme's game would improve a great deal were he to learn the shotgun spreadshot. Untested in whole map and straight shot modes.
12 - Debero NEW ENTRY!
~VaLaR~
A good long range game enables Debero to score some surprising kills on higher placed archers, but he lacks the medium and short range games and map awareness of higher tiered players. With more practise he could certainly increase his killing capacity. The 2013 Olympics might allow him to gain shome whole map experience.
13 - Soldier NEW ENTRY!
~VaLaR~
A similar archer to Debero. His long range game allows him to score some kills but he lacks the medium and short range games and map awareness of higher tiered players. With more practise he definitely has the potential to climb higher on the boards. The 2013 Olympics might allow him to gain shome whole map experience.
14 - Simon
eQ
Simon's archer is improving. He has a strong longshot and is developing more terrain knowledge. At present he lacks the map awareness and killing capacity of the higher tiered archers. Nevertheless he has the potential to climb higher on the boards. An entrance in the 2013 Conquest Olympics will help him gain experience in the whole map mode.
15 - Arni Ramone
eQ.
A strong long range archer, Arni Ramone has returned along with his brother Uri Sansa and together they have been holding their own on the servers. Arni is an underrated archer with a lot of potential. Could achieve some success in the forthcoming 2013 Olympics. July saw Arni join
eQ clan.
16 - Uri Sansa
eQ.
A mage legend from the Ps3, Uri possesses a decent long range archer and has recently returned to the game alongside his brother Arni Ramone. He possesses a ton of potential and could easily climb much higher on these boards as his skills return. Perhaps a run in the 2013 Olympics could improve his fortunes. July saw Uri join eQ. clan.
17 - Wolfgang
WBA
Keeping the WBA torch burning in his heart, Wolfgang can bring a decent mid-range game to banish angries from the realms of LOTR. Somewhat sporadic in his activity you'll sometimes encounter him in prime time games.
18 - Sandalf NEW ENTRY!
BOOB / BLINCO
Although he's mostly known for his warrior and mage, Sandalf's archer is quite a threat considering the incredible lag he copes with. Capable of upsetting higher ranked players with his surprising accuracy he nevertheless lacks killing capacity and map awareness compared to top players. In July Sandalf joined the emergent BOOB clan alongside Ronjons and Matt Gordo
19 - Scoop NEW ENTRY!
Arkstone
A member of the Arkstone group, Scoop is a newer player who has been playing with increasing regularlity. He possesses the accuracy of many higher ranked archers but at present his movement patterns seriously hold him back. Scoop is much too static and often camps ineffectively (on shire hill), reducing his k/d ratio. He also self-confessedly doesn't even try to win conquest or CTR, just playing for k/d score. That said, he does have a lot of potential due to his accuracy and it's always pleasing to see new players coming to the game.
20 - Matt Gordo NEW ENTRY!
BOOB
A new entry for the recently returned Matt Gordo who copes well with lag to manage some skilful longshots. Best known for his warrior he nevertheless can play archer when needed. While he is often quite static and lacks map awareness, terrain knowledge and killing capacity he certainly has the ability to surprise those who underrated him
21 - Vini / Vinco
The beloved Vinco is actually an improved archer of late. As with Scoop, he has the accuracy of many higher placed archers. Vinco's biggest weakness, however, are his movement patterns. He's much too static, making him easy to hit and also reducing his killing capacity. With increased map awareness he could improve greatly. Vinco is entirely self-taught, sadly remaining an outsider to the community
22 - Eamane
TacTic
A former PSX member and current TacTic player, Eamane's archer has a great deal of potential and she can surprise with some accurate mid-range shots. Unfortunately these days she is very rarely active.
Equester (Tier 1)
