It seems pretty unanimous that
Mage is the easiest/most adaptable class in the beginning, but also the hardest to "train to tier1" status (to master)
Archer is the most popular common and straight forward class. Irritatingly effective at long range (how dare they?), but an increasing amount of skill is required to vie with warriors in CQB, as you're working against the mechanics of the class.
Warrior has the longest learning curve (basically warrior noobs are ez and tier1 warrs are nigh unstoppable in CQB so that they dominate 1v1s and take forever to kill even when outnumbered, since they can effectively "negate" (dodge) a ton of DPS; this makes them the true MVPs imo, despite getting few kills and going unsung)
Scout is less predictable imo. If played "KOTT style" - that is, backstabs, bombs, and aerial attacks only, relying mainly on sneaky kills and steals - scout is very simple, and only a basic knowledge of maps and timings is required to achieve a good k/d ratio. Unless used to greater effect as a sort of reconnaissance role in a cw or something, the scout is kinda just a leech/kill stealer and contributes little other than an added threat to people getting ganged, as they are damned if they shimmy and damned if they jump. Obviously, the scout metagame has come quite a long way since then, and there are several really great tier1 scouts like Ramp, Merlin, Ang, etc, but imo in terms of melee complexity Sectorjam has reached a tier of his own and brought the melee scout metagame to new heights, and in that sense there are even fewer masters of the scout class than there are of mage. It's just sad that the most complex (and imo, fun) class is also the worst...because let's face it: all it takes for archers/mages is a delayed timing, and warriors have a strong advantage duelling anyone, especially scouts...their light special is designed to torment us...

And unfortunately scout is the only class that doesnt make fun to play in small mixed games because everybody knows "there is a scout arround".And scout duels are the most boring duels. Jump, jumpattack, cloak. Jump, jumpattack, cloak, bomb, jump, cloak, jumpattack. bla bla

Scout duels have always been boring (relying on bomb aim and timing of aerial attacks).
I could be biased seeing as I'm a "Backstab" scout, But scout melee in 8vs8 should not be used so often, Scout should play using guerrilla warfare tactics like: ambushes, sabotage, petty warfare, hit-and-run tactics, and mobility.
Just imo, There are different styles for each class, but after 6 years I've seen no other style that is more effective or superior for scout.
That is just my opinion for 8vs8.

Speak for yourself! Scout duels are not boring, mainstream scout players are! lol I'm not denying that invisible bomb-tagging pogo ninjas fighting at a rate of 1 kill every 2 minutes is boring. Nor am I saying that scout melee in any shape or form - even Sectorjam's calibre - is more effective/superior than KOTT-style in 8v8, I'm just saying it's (imo) more fun and more complex.
The scout's depth and learning curve is full as much that of the warrior's. Those who see nothing past backstabs, bombs, and aerials have yet to bask.

Scout 8v8 effectiveness is largely wasted by multi-shot reveals and the fact that on many maps (depending on the lighting) you are still quite visible when cloaked. Worst example is Shire HTDM, some guy camps the hill behind a gandalf shield. It seems the scout (Grima) was intended to be able to counter that situation. But Grima is so visible when cloaked, plus all the 5-arrow multi shot reveals, it's rare for him to be able to reach the hill. Besides, as an archer you can just line up a cloaked Grima for a head shot. It's rather broken.
But I will say 1-2 scouts in conquest mode are fantastic against warriors. Scouts seem to be most useful as anti-warrior these days. Now that warriors have become such a force (at least in numbers).
