Very high skill level in this match.
In general, watching these videos, I realise how insanely advanced the standard of play became over the last few years. You mofos took this game to heights beyond what anyone would have expected. Whereas the 2010 Olympics had the best players for its time, you all developed these blessed classes into ruthless terminators with perfect knowledge of all abilities, combos and situations. Impressive.

That wall is the warrior's bane

That wall is the bane of everyone who doesn't possess the "virtue" of patience I remember this...gotta be one of the least fun duels I've ever had . I don't know why this isn't called the Gauntlet because that's what it really felt like having to try and reach Ang's mage. That camp spot is totally inaccessible apart from one long, narrow path - a massive advantage to those with the moral depravity I mean patience to wait for their helpless victims. As the vid demonstrated, nonstop lightning and firewalls alone can effectively halt any charge, and even if someone gets through, the mage can just hop down and run up the outer wall while his abilities recharge, and another gauntlet begins. Meanwhile even warriors end up with less than half health at this point, making another charge nigh impossible. It totally shifts the focus from skill against skill alone (fighting as God intended) to impatient aggressor against patient camper. All due respect to Ang. I'm not saying if we had played in, say, a MTT duelling arena, that I'd have beaten him; he's a beast in every class. I'm just saying with that kind of "defensive" tactic (camping) employed on a map that favours such indulgence therein, I don't feel as if Ang's skill was demonstrated and/or what defeated me, rather that the map ultimately won out, and others adopting the same immorality could have done just as well. "Lesser men with spades would have served you better." But I ask you...are we such men? Do we need spades? Walls, I daresay? Nay nay... I bid you stand, MEN OF THE WEST!!! Tl;dr I think we should pick a different Open Class map. Helm's Deep is broken and tedious.

I agree and disagree...you have to realize how ridiculously op warriors are, especially against the weakest class in the game (mage) as we saw in Merlin vs Zoro the first fight Merlin got 95% of Zoro's health and yet 1 axe and it was over for the mage (100% no escape guaranteed). Warrior has the advantage on flat ground and i don't see the mage winning against top warriors on flat ground unless they fail alot during the fight or if your Merlin who is the best mage at fighting warriors. Which is why i feel the wall gives the mage some balance back in the fight if not it's a whitewash for the warrior. Now i do agree that it's a filthy tactic but when i entered the Olympics after a 5 month break i did say i lost quite a bit of skill and was using that dumb Pc controller and not to expect me to play the same, I had to play more defensively in my matches i didn't trust my aim with the current state of my skill level and controller. I've currently not played for about 4 months ever since our last Black Council clan war i retired (Smite is just too good ) but if Mayhem makes another Olympics i will be returning for it and hopefully we can settle this in the warrior event one last time!

I will grant you that warriors have the advantage over mages on flat ground, but to say that that wall on Helm's "balances" it is ludicrous. It gives the mage almost certain victory. The fight of Merl and Zoro in the throne room also goes to show that mages can hold their own against top warriors, and there are still rooms and corners to jump around and give mages an edge (pun intended). Yes, Merlin is great at killing warriors, but let's not forget how elite Zoro had become at warrior. In my opinion what gave mages tier 1 status was their ability to go toe to toe with top warriors in an open area, strafing, back walking and shielding to skillfully dodge axes and charges, and then turn on the heat with some offense. (When a warrior misses an axe it's the longest 5 seconds everrrrr). My point is this wall gives the mage a huge divide where he can hurl fire and lightning to his heart's content safely out of axe's throw (or leastways out of a warrior's follow up distance). This puts strategy above skill and metagame ingenuity - ie. any mage who knows how to lightning jump cancel could use it effectively. And to elitist ethical taquito that's just not right xD EDIT: I'm glad we have such diversity of people and thought in the game that we can still have 6 year veterans in disagreement on certain things. Makes for great edifying discussions. Let's agree to disagree xD Games been out 6+ years and there's still no consensus on things aha love it. LOTRC too op
