Amazon is planning to produce a LOTR series. Do you like that idea? Im somehow not really decided because on the one hand it could make the movies look strange if they have different actors but on the other hand a good produced high quality series could make LOTR really hyped again (hopefully LOTRC 2 xD) and it could be very interesting to see more of middle-earth and its "daily life" without only seeing the main ring story. nerdist.com/lord-of-the-rings-tv-series-amazon-prime/

Is this going to be a remake? I wouldn't mind a longer version of the LOTR movies, as several parts felt rushed (eg. escape from the Shire). I guess it would have to have new actors, sadly.

maybe the series might follow the books a bit more. would be nice to see Tom Bombadil make an appearance, or for Saruman's attack on the Shire to be shown.

For me it's all about the books, and any TV/film adaptation will stand or fall based on how true they are to the books...and not necessarily always to the letter, so long as the 'feel' and 'tone' Tolkien imbued the stories with is respected. There's talk of adding Game of Thronesque sex and violence. Read The Children of Hurin and you'll see Tolkien doesn't shy away from either, but always coats them in a very serious nature. eg. Turin chasing Saeros over the ford, tragically slaying Beleg, unbeknownst incest, etc.
As a prequel set between The Hobbit and LOTR, there isn't a whole lot of material for them to work with. Hopefully they'll stay faithful to Tolkien with their new content and won't cheapen Middle-earth's majesty. For me there's something very serious about Tolkien's world, regardless of even how he wrote The Hobbit as geared towards children. That style (which is not the most common used) is only the mode in which he tells his story, which fundamentally pushes the limits of significance with central themes of death, immortality, fate, good, evil, etc.
